I Exercises on Aims

The exercises on aims are divided into two categories:

Exercise A applies to the student’s own discipline and research subject

Exercise B which requires either or both a broader and a theoretical discussion

I 1 A) Choose a subject matter which you find interesting to research (e.g. the subject matter of your thesis). Formulate three different research aims on the subject matter.

I 2 A) Choose a subject matter which you find interesting to research (e.g. the subject matter of your thesis). Which kind of research aims are suitable for researching the subject matter, and which aims are unsuitable?

I 3 A) Choose a subject matter which you find interesting to research (e.g. the subject matter of your thesis). Discuss how you could formulate a research aim on:

a) the present condition

b) the future

c) the past of the subject matter.

I 4 A) Choose a research aim from the Aims circle, which you find interesting. Which kind of subject matters or phenomena, related to the aim, have been researched in your discipline?

I 5 B) Find within your own discipline a research project, in which the aim has been to form a theory. Introduce briefly the aim of the research.

I 6 B) Discuss the kinds of aims, which are typical in your own discipline at the moment. Which kinds of aims were typical in your discipline 20 years ago?

I 7 B) Discuss the kinds of aims, which are the most common and best describe the core area of your discipline.

I 8 B) Discuss how the aims of qualitative and quantitative research differ.

I 9 B) Choose three research aims from the Aims circle, in which you could use the same data analysis method. Explain why the same analysis method can be applied to the chosen research aims?
